Welcome to Fourth Grade!!!
Welcome to Mrs. Burkenheim's class, well actually it is your class. I am looking forward to wonderful school year with each of you.
I am excited to welcome each of you to a new and exciting year. We will be experiencing a lot of new things this year. It will be a fun and exciting year.
This will be my third year at Edison in fourth grade. Previously I have taught for 21 years in California. My family moved to Colorado in the summer of 2011 to try an adventure in a new area and love our new state. I received two BAs from University of California, Irvine; one in Psychology and one in Anthropology. I earned my teaching license from California State University, Northridge and have a professional Colorado credential. I received my endorsement in Gifted education two years ago. Throughout my teaching, I have participated in many trainings, which have helped me teach every child to their best ability.
I believe that every child can learn and succeed in their own way. I enjoy getting to know how each student learns, and helping them develop that ability. Learning should be a hands on experience that is enjoyable and fun. I hold high expectations for each individual and help them achieve their best. We will develop a class community where every child will feel safe to learn and take risks. I look forward to an exciting journey this year watching each of you grow and learn.
This summer I spent time with my husband and two children, Bryce 20, and Maryssa 18. I went camping at Mount Rushmore, a place I always wanted to go, and on the beach in California with many family friends. I also spent time reading books and quilting.
